Johnny Curran and James Ring explore professional sports industry

Over the last two weeks of school for their senior project, basketball fans Johhny Curran ’14, and James Ring ’14, will find out what it takes to put on a professional basketball game. They will be working alongside their former lacrosse coach who currently runs game day operations for both the Timberwolves and the Lynx.

The Timberwolves are currently in their offseason, so both Curran and Ring will be working with Minnesota’s women’s basketball team, The Lynx. They will be learning about what it takes to run contests at halftime, book halftime shows, coordinate time outs, and manage what music is going to be played. As Ring summarized,“what it takes to do all the things that allow the target center to be ready to host a ton of people for a game.”

Both James and Johnny are interested in possibly pursuing business in the future, and believe that this will be great opportunity to see what it is like to participate in the business world. More specifically, Curran is excited to “see how a sports organization and front office jobs run.” Ring added,“It is a basketball team, but the goal is to make money, so I think it’s interesting to see how this sports dynamic works.”
