Sasha Takes Us Under the Ice of Blake’s Boys Hockey Team

What’s to come? Pack the stands to find out.

“The team might start slow, but we are young and our time will come. It’s all about trusting the system and believing. I believe!” remarks Blake Boys Hockey Captain Sasha Shogren ‘18. Coming off a four game win streak, BBH is picking up heat coming into the season with a record of 4-1. BBH’s only loss was against Delano, in which they were thrashed 9-0 due to Delano’s three Division I commits.

The team needs some time. I want our fans to be patient. I know you’re out there, you just don’t want to admit it.

The loss was also due to the youth of the team, which includes five freshmen and an eighth grade goalie, all of whom are already improving, which is proven with the team’s recent success.

Shogren, a focal point in the Bears’ attack elaborated that, “Our main goal is to make it to the state tournament…. A lot of work and commitment, but I am confident that every single player on the team is willing to put in the effort and do their job.” Although, the team lost seven players to graduation, and two players due to transfers, Shogren is confident that the team’s time will come soon if skill development continues throughout the season. Shogren states that he hopes to “be a positive leader on and off the ice and make the season fun and enjoyable for the younger guys” and aims to “continue on the legacy of former captain Johnny Ferguson ’16.”

With the season in full-swing, Sasha believes in the future success of the team, “The team needs some time. I want our fans to be patient. I know you’re out there, you just don’t want to admit it. Who doesn’t love to watch some hockey? I know I do!” Coming up this week, BBH is stacked up against Orono on Thursday in Orono, and on Saturday against conference rival Breck at the IMAC Showcase at Drake Arena at 4:00.
