Yousha’s spectacular homecoming outfit from last year’s dance consisted of a navy suit from Macy’s, a white button down from Nordstrom, and khakis from American Eagle.

With Homecoming right around the corner, students are getting dressed for one of the most fun weekends of the year. Getting ready includes asking dates to Homecoming, getting groups together, figuring out plans, signing up for the dance, and getting together outfits for the football game. The most important part of getting ready, though, is getting dressed for the dance.

For many students, the outfits for the dance are the most important and most stressful. These outfits are very important to all, and since Homecoming is only one weekend, students have to be careful about how much they spend on fancy clothes like dresses and blazers.

I’ve found that Homecoming is a time where students dress up, but don’t go all out as they would for prom. For example, girls might wear more casual dresses, while guys might wear khakis and a button-down shirt instead of a full suit. For Homecoming, I like to wear khakis and a blazer, which is the perfect mix of casual and fancy for Homecoming photos.

There are many places to purchase khakis, and some of the best ones are American Eagle, Macy’s, and Target. Khakis can be found for much cheaper than suit pants, and they look very good when ironed out and paired with the right shirt. For shirts, a white button-down shirt as well as other lighter colors complement the khakis. A nice button-down can be purchased somewhere like Macy’s, Nordstrom, or JCrew. A blazer will complete the look, which can be bought at many places. Some of my favorites are Macy’s, Men’s Wearhouse, and Nordstrom. The overall look of khaki pants, a button-up shirt, a blazer, and maybe a tie, not only looks nice but is much cheaper for one night than a full suit would be.

In terms of dresses, a similar strategy is used. Girls like to find dresses that look pretty but are also reasonably priced for just wearing it one night. There are many places to find a good dress for a good price, and Cynthia Lyman ‘24 shares that one of her favorites is “Lucy in the Sky because it’s cheap and they have good dresses to wear once.”

Although it might seem easy to be careless about your Homecoming fit, it is important to recognize that you still want to look nice while keeping in mind that the event is only one night. Each student only has four Homecomings, so it is a big night for all.
