“I am very excited for the upcoming season, excited to get outside with the guys,” said Nick Russeth ‘27. The baseball season is underway, with players excited for the new opportunity of the season.
Russeth, who plays third base, shortstop, and pitcher, expects big things from the team, reflecting that “I’d [still] put us at the top of our section.” Swing player Will Venable ‘28 added, “I love being around all of the guys and it is just a great team atmosphere.” He also referenced that the leadership of captains Drew Dillion ‘25 and Eli Charney ‘25 makes the team feel like a community. Despite the great atmosphere, Russeth asserted that he would like to see “more dedication, more heart, more grit,” emphasizing that “we can’t have injuries.” Junior Jesse Posada ‘26 supports this, stating “We need people to be more cautious this season to prevent getting injured; if our starters are out, we are in trouble.”
After a state tournament appearance last season, expectations are high. Given a healthy team, Russeth feels the Bears should make a run at state. Despite this potential, fan turnout is lacking. Russeth noted, “Last year I didn’t see any fans, besides parents, show up [at] the Breck game and games that matter.” Venable agreed, mentioning that higher fan turnout would “bring more energy to the games.” The team plays at the middle school fields for their home games. As Posada said, “Honestly, just show up to more games.”
