“The vibes are just immaculate,” described captain Christian Hovard ‘25, “It’s purely positive.”
Despite being in the middle of a semi-rebuilding year, having a revamped coaching staff, and only starting the year with two seniors, the team has grown together, improving as the year progresses. Sam Spaeth ‘27 said, “My favorite aspect of this season [has been] getting to know the new coaching staff and developing a relationship with new players.” “The team is all very close with each other and even the new players have gotten comfortable this year,” added Atlee Askew ‘27.
Hovard explained, “Winning with the team is great…vibes are always great in the locker room, and the coaches are excited with us…not just for us.” While winning brings many positives, losing close games proves to be more difficult: Askew mentioned, “An area of growth for the team is learning how to not get into our heads after a loss or a negative comment.” Despite this, Hovard noted the “coaches have…really emphasized the idea of picking each other up, and that we’re going to win or lose as a team. It’s a team sport at the end of the day.” “When we lose, it’s okay, it’s just a game,” he continued.
The team believes their best game was their 14-10 comeback victory against Providence on April 30. “We were down a lot at halftime…but we battled back…went on a run and won it by a goal or two, which was just electric,” Hovard stated. “Everybody played out of their minds. And I think that was one of those times where the team’s effort and the team’s togetherness were really crucial, because that could not have happened with just one person. It was a team battle, and we came out on top.” Spaeth confirmed,“There was a lot on the line, and the team demonstrated that.”
Hovard explained “We don’t get a ton of support, but when we do…it’s so fun. Everybody just play[s] well. Every time we see someone who isn’t a family member in the stands it’s just like… ‘that’s tough.’” Spaeth categorized “Fan turnout [as] certainly play[ing] a role in the encompassing energy level of our games.” “It makes everyone play way better…If we could get more turnout next year, that’d be great,” Hovard elaborated.
“The team has such a bright future,” said Hovard. “We have some really talented guys coming through the program, the coaches love the sport, love the team. It’s purely positive.”
