Winters have gotten worse. Do you ever find yourself longing for the winter days of childhood? Well, I do. I often find myself bundled up, freezing my toes and hands off on a cold Minnesota winter day, and wonder why I ever even liked winter when I was younger. Winter used to go by so fast, but now it seems to take forever. But why is that? The only thing is fun. When I was little, I used to have so much fun. I would create the fun.
When I was younger, the house across the street from me was up for rent and would often have new people living there every month. One day, a new family moved into that house. After school, we invited my other neighbors to come over to play. We kids were curious about the new neighbors, so we opted to play in the front yard to get a better look. We got out to the front yard and started making snowballs to throw at each other, when snowballs hit us. None of us were done making our snowballs yet. We looked across the street to find that our new neighbors were the ones throwing the snowballs. Of course, this soon turned into one of the biggest and most elaborate snowball fights I have ever been a part of. When was the last time you were part of a spontaneous snowball fight? I bet it was the last time that you actually liked winter. The reason we have stopped finding joy in winter is that we have lost our creativity and lost our fun. If you want your winters to feel like your childhood winters, you need to start the snowball fight.
