Raquets say Repeat: Blake Girls Tennis takes State

Cheers echoed throughout the Reed Sweat bubble, Tuesday, October 23 as the girl’s tennis team claimed their second consecutive Class A State Championship. They dominated quarterfinals 7-0 and repeated these sweeping statistics again in semi-finals, and finals. However, their season as a whole speaks to the talent of this team equally well. The tennis team ended their season 21-3, (only loosing to double A schools) as Tri-Metro Conference champions for the second year. Claire Carpenter’13 remembers the most rewarding moments of the season as the team’s triumph over Breck, 4-3, in Section finals. The girls attended their banquet, Sunday, November 4, to celebrate their 2012 successes. Several team members were honored their exceptional work throughout the season. Lucy Nelson ’16 received the Most Valuable Player award, after coming back during her second set, to win the fourth point against Breck in the Section finals. The team will look forward to Nelson’s ability for seasons to come. In addition, two seniors were recognized: Izzy Swanson ’13 and Kate Frayley ’13. Swanson and Frayley, the doubles duo, were distinguished for sportsmanship on the court, and most improved player, respectively. What an incredible final season for the six seniors who recently concluded their Blake tennis careers. Needless to say, the Blake Girl’s Tennis team marked another victorious year both on the courts at the Blake campus, and within the tennis bubble at Reed Sweat.
