After a historic year in 2024 in which the song “Espresso” was the song of the summer and the album “Short n’ Sweet” topped the charts, no one expected Sabrina Carpenter to announce a new album so soon. However, on August 29, Carpenter released her seventh studio album, “Man’s Best Friend.”
I believe the album is worse than “Short n’ Sweet” but I still enjoy it as a whole. The more I listen, the more I like it. The sound of the album feels like a natural progression from the sound of Short n Sweet, with some songs that have a very similar sound to the deluxe tracks released in February 2025 and some songs that stand more on their own.
A common criticism of the album is that the lyrics sound like they were written to go viral on social media, which does seem true in a lot of songs. The lyricism of the album definitely leans more towards cheeky references, double entendres, and plays on words. However, that’s not always a bad thing. A lot of the songs you are meant to just have fun with, which isn’t seen as much in pop music nowadays.
My favorite songs in the album are “Nobody’s Son” and “We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night.” I feel like these two songs have less of a generic pop sound and have more complex lyricism, which is what I tend to enjoy in music. However, two of my other favorites are “Go Go Juice” and “House Tour,” which are meant to be nothing more than upbeat bubblegum pop.
Overall, I enjoyed the majority of this album. While it might not be my favorite Sabrina Carpenter album, I would rate it a 7/10.
