Blinding lights, blaring bass, and everyone high up in their own worlds, dancing to the beat. Contagious laughter and entertainment blasting out of the speakers. This is the goal of the three selected student DJs for this upcoming dance.
These DJs, Chase Liebo ‘26, Steven Cao ‘26, and Charley Bowles ‘26, will have a shot to contribute their music to this forthcoming event. Each has a different preparation strategy.. Bowles, a first-time DJ, said, “I’m making my set list and transitions. Like, practicing it over and over and over, so I can sound good day of.” She commented, “I think the past DJs have been sort of lackluster. And I just thought it would be a cool thing to try out.” She plans to bring some popular 2010s pop, and then move into some of the newer 2020 hits.
Cao, who has previously worked as a DJ at smaller events and helped out at sports games, said, “I kind of look at what kinds of [music] sound festive, like in terms of key and tempo.” He has a DJ mixer, the Pioneer XDJ RX3.
Preparation strategies may vary, but each DJ is equally excited to share their music at the dance. “The main thing I want to play is, like, house music and rave music. Get people hyped up in my section along with some other rap music and maybe one or two of my songs from the new album that [just came out],” said Liebo, an artist with a new album released Friday, Jan. 16th, on Spotify. He said, “I just enjoy sharing music with other people, and I feel like it would be fun to get everybody hyped up and enjoying the dance.”
Bowles and Cao also appreciate this joy in sharing music. Overall, based on the effort and passion of these three student DJs, this fast-approaching event is forecasted to be filled with high-spirited music making for a memorable experience.
