Anna Craig ’25 and Aveline Carroll ’24 perform on stage.

On Friday March 9th, the Upper School Theater Department debuted their wondrous interpretation of the Addams Family Musical. Based on the wildly homicidal and nontraditional family from the popular “Addams Family” TV Show franchise, the musical production exceeded the whimsy, shock-value, innuendos, set design, and widely adored characters found in the original series. The production surrounded a death-fanatic family grappling with the eldest daughter growing up and into love. The majority of the musical surrounded the chaotic events and catastrophes following one singular dinner where Wednesday Addams’ family met her secret fiancée’s parents.

Cast members were able to perfectly exaggerate the intentional absurdities of the production and, while gruesome, were able to access and present the most humane part of each character: a lust for love. From strange, young love, to even stranger professions of love to inanimate and astronomical objects, performers stunned audiences with an incredibly witty and vivacious presentation of “The Addams Family Musical.” Throughout the night, the audience was filled with raucous laughter—a testament to the cast members collectively nailing the timing and physicality behind every single joke and innuendo.
