Sophomores Walk into New Year through Downtown

And the end of the walk, all of the advisories met each other in Loring Park. The Housman advisory was proud to show
that they had made it on time, so they posted this picture on Instagram. At the park, students talked to each other and ate
a few snacks before heading back to school to go home.

The Haines advisory certainly had an exciting day as Elle McCarty and Ben Aronow faced off in an arm wrestling contest. While each advisory
worked hard to find all of the places on the list, the students had fun being around their friends and shared some laughs along the way.

Here, the Haines advisory is visiting a sculpture near Target Field, the home of the Minnesota Twins. The advisory that found the most things
from the checklist (given out before the walk began) will receive a prize in the weeks following the walk.

The Kriesle advisory (pictured above) enjoyed many various treats throughout the day such as Starbucks. The advisories were able
to spend the entire day alone in Minneapolis. During this time, each advisory had to find anything they wanted such as lunch or a snack.
Pictured above is the Housman advisory on the top of the Guthrie Theater. One of the things that each advisory had to do was take
a picture at a performance space. Once any photo had been taken, each advisory uploaded it to Instagram using the hashtag: blakesophwalk18.

On August 27, the sophomores got the opportunity to explore Downtown Minneapolis on Blake’s annual retreat day. The day gives each advisory the chance to explore Minneapolis at their own pace without any parameters.

Advisories had the freedom to go anywhere in Minneapolis during the time allowed. The only rule was that all of the advisories had to be back at Loring Park by the afternoon.

Sophomore Grade Dean Shawn Reid thought that the Sophomore Walk was a success, specifically citing that, “We had a great buy in from both the students and the advisors.” He thought the sophomore walk facilitated, “Building good grade camaraderie. It helped start the school year off right.”
